If you're looking for something to simplify your winter skincare routine with plant-based ingredients, this combo is a lovely place to start.
It contains:
i) Apricot Kernel Oil- 100 ml
ii) Apricot Meal Scrub – 60 gms
1. Apricot Kernel Oil
Apricot Kernel Oil, also known as Gutti Tel or Khubani ka Tel, is rich in essential fatty acids like oleic and linoleic acid, which help deeply moisturise and nourish both skin and hair.
Use it as a facial oil, body oil after bathing, cuticle oil or massage oil. You can also apply it to your hair lengths before washing or use a few drops during your Abhyanga (Ayurvedic self-massage) ritual.
2. Apricot Meal Scrub
It is a naturally exfoliating ingredient made from the apricot meal left behind after oil extraction. Our female famer community manually hand-pound this meal to prepare our scrub, making thoughtful use of the same apricot kernels.
Mix it with water, rose water or milk just before use to create a simple exfoliating paste for your body. It can also be used on the face if your skin tolerates physical exfoliation.
The Story Behind This Combo
At Vriksha Veda, our Apricot Oil is extracted from the kernels of sweet apricot fruits by a women-led Self-Help Group in Uttarakhand. These women traditionally prepare handmade products like pickles and papad to support their livelihoods.
And here's something we love about this process: after extracting the oil, the apricot meal (khaal) remains. Instead of letting it go to waste, the women manually hand-pound it to make our Apricot Meal Scrub.
The result? Two useful products from the same humble kernel, with greater use made of the raw material and an additional source of income for the women involved.
